New Year, New You, right?
2022 (or is it 2020 too all over again :-)) has arrived. If you are like us, 2021 flew by and we are excited for what the new year has in store. New year brings new commitments for people personally and professionally. Let’s make sure when the next new year rolls around, that you can look back on a very successful year starting with the tips below!
Starting with Showing Up
Science shows us that 92% of people don’t achieve their goals. Let’s not focus on them.
Instead we are going to provide some guidance on what the other 8% do to get things done. Starting with showing up.
You can’t have a chance to be called into the game, if you aren’t even at the game. You never know what can happen when you are in the room. Give yourself a chance by showing up everyday. Even when you aren’t feeling it, just show up!
Come on 8%, you’ve got this!
Choose Your Own Goals
It may be harder to achieve goals when they aren’t really your goals. What do we mean? Just because your spouse wants to get in shape doesn’t mean that is your top priority for yourself. Or you may have friends who want to become authors so you add writing a book to your list although you hate writing. These may be extreme but you get the point.
Goal setting should be personal. Take time to think about what it is you want to accomplish and why. The why may be more important than the goal itself because there will be days when you may not feel like showing up. You will depend on your why to keep you pushing and moving forward towards your goals.
Choose One Thing
The new year is a time to reset but so is a new day. Since there is so much focus on creating new goals at the beginning of the new year, people tend to go all out and think the longer the list the better.
We are here to tell you that long to-do lists can be detrimental to you finishing anything. We are not saying that you cannot keep a running bucket list of things so you don’t forget them. But when it comes to looking at what you want to accomplish for the next 12 weeks, start by targeting only one thing. If you must have a few more options, then a max of three. But that’s it until you are able to complete at least one thing from your list.
Develop a Schedule
Every person is different, so schedules may or may not work for you. However, most people thrive on routine. Creating a schedule provides predictability and less anxiety on what to do next.
This does not mean that your schedule has to be rigid and unable to be changed. Change is inevitable, so if you have to change up your routine, no worries. But a schedule gives you a foundation to always default back to.
Do It (Before You Can Make An Excuse Not To)
Simply put, just do it. Before you can think of why you shouldn’t do it or all that you have to do, get it done. You may be standing in the way of your own success.
Incorporating these simple steps into your daily lives will help you achieve the outcomes you desire!
